Four in February – 2024 Edition

Every February I join in on the yearly gaming tradition/goal to finish four titles. These could be games you haven’t started yet, games you are pretty close to completing, or anything in between. This mini resolution is aptly named “Four in February”, and I wanted to jot down a few thoughts about the titles I’m hoping to finish this year.

1. Cyberpunk 2077

I feel like I fired up Cyberpunk 2077 at the right time…three years after release. Aside from some random game crashes, I gave CD Projekt RED plenty of time to finish cooking the game after a pretty disastrous launch in 2020.

I’m 52 hours into my life in Night City and while it’s been a blast, I don’t think I’ll be clearing out every map marker in this very expansive game. My knife-juggling/hacker merc is starting to get antsy to see the end of the story, so it probably won’t take me too long to wrap things up here.

2. Hi-Fi Rush

I’ll freely admit this one embarrasses me a little bit, and for a few reasons. First off, Hi-Fi Rush was actually on my Four in February list last year. Second, it’s not a terribly long game (clocking in around 11 hours or so according to How Long to Beat). When I look back at February 2023 I know I spent a lot of time exploring The Lands Between and finishing Elden Ring, so it makes sense that I didn’t wrap this one up.

I’m about halfway through, and if I can successfully refresh myself on how the game works I should be able to cross this off my list.

3. Final Fantasy 7 INTERmission

I know this isn’t a full game of course, but after reading through the fact that Hi-Fi Rush is a repeat offender from last year…maybe cut me some slack!

I have so many games that I want to play that I currently have access to, I normally hold off on buying games on Day 1. But I’m going to make an exception for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at the end of the month so I can minimize spoilers. The INTERmission should be a short jaunt back into Midgar in anticipation for Rebirth and I’m excited! I never got around to buying the normally $20 DLC, but thankfully my new PlayStation Plus Extra subscription gave me access.

4. Trials of Mana

My intention was to post this much closer to the beginning of the month, but I struggled on choosing a fourth game to work on completing. I finally settled on the Trials of Mana remake, thanks in part to my choice of upgrading PlayStation Plus to the Extra level.

A few years back I borrowed the Collection of Mana from my twin and played through Final Fantasy Adventure and Secret of Mana while working out. I had started the final game in that collection, Trials of Mana, but only made it to level 10. Now, a year and a half later, I’ll need a restart to remember what’s happening and that’s where the remake comes in.

We’re a quarter of the way through the month already, but solid progress is being made on my Four in February challenge! I’ll post another update at the end of the month to show you how it went. If you are also doing Four in February, be sure to comment here and let me know what games you are taking on!
